STRESS SERIES | Failure as Feedback
I want to talk about resilience in the face of perceived setbacks, particularly in the context of dealing with blemishes that pop up on your healing journey after days, weeks, months, or even years of clear skin. When this happens our tendency is to get angry, anxious, and ultimately spin out of control. Why is this happening? Was it the bread we ate? The ice cream? The new supplement? Did something weird touch our skin? I want you to stop and take a breath. Instead of panicking, revisit the tools in your toolbox. You know what works for you. Double down on self care (hit up the infrared sauna, book an appointment with your acupuncturist, or make a date with your tub for a much needed soak), amp up your veggie intake (cruciferous veggies in particular are always a good idea), and get consistent with your tried and true supplements (fish oil, zinc, B-complex, probiotic - check, check, check, check). Most importantly, make friends with your meditation pillow again.
Often times when things are going good for us, we let our diet and self care slip. And it can take months for sugar and stress to wreak their hormonal havoc. But it's all okay. I promise. This is not the time to start a crazy cleanse or purchase 16 new supplements. Go back to the basics. These new blemishes are not a failure on your part, they are simply feedback. Feedback that is letting you know that your hormones are slightly wonky and your body is a little inflamed. We can fix that. You may not see results overnight, but you do know how to course correct. And you have to truly, deeply trust that. You know your body better than anyone else. You know what it needs.
So don't panic, just gently course correct.
