STRESS SERIES | Acne Positivity
I was in the middle of working on a PCOS post when I saw this article on acne positivity and had to slam on the brakes. This is everything. Forget the nutrition rules and skincare tips and just read this article. And really let it sink in. What if you could love your skin as it exists in the present moment? No shame, no hiding, no hoping it's going to be better tomorrow. Right now. Do you feel that? That's relief. No, that's freaking giddiness.
I know it's hard and you're probably not ready to post pictures of your blemishes on Instagram, BUT know that you are not alone. You are not unique in your struggles with imperfect skin. If a women isn't lamenting her acne, she's micromanaging her sun damage or wrinkles. And that's just it, we need to let go of this drive for perfection. When you see images on Instagram, there are filters and lighting and a million different retakes that went into that image. So please don't use it as a yardstick.
Your skin is not a measure of your self worth. Or your beauty. Or your value as a human being. It's just skin. And it's constantly changing. So celebrate where you're at. Because at some point in the near or maybe far future, your blemishes will be gone. They will. Do you really want to look back at these years when you were young and juicy and vibrant and realize you wasted them feeling crappy about yourself? As Kali Kushner so beautifully put it, "if this is the ‘worst’ thing I have in my life right now, things are going pretty damn good, I’d say.”
Thanks for this article Well & Good! I loved it!!
