This is it people! Ovulation!

The shortest phase of your cycle, the Ovulatory Phase typically lasts 2 to 3 days and occurs between days 12 and 17 of your cycle. Oxytocin triggers a surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which causes your dormant follicle to burst and release its egg into the fallopian tube.  Oxytocin also increases libido and aids in climax, which in turn stimulates more oxytocin production. (The body is so amazing!) During this time, you should notice the texture of your cervical fluid change to that of a viscous, elastic egg white-type consistency and actual ovulation occurs on the last day that you see and feel cervical fluid.  Your basal body temperature will dip slightly before ovulation and then rise a few tenths of a degree shortly afterwards.

Food Focus – During the Ovulatory Phase, modify your diet slightly to include more foods that support the liver’s elimination of potentially harmful estrogens. Amp up your intake of cruciferous veggies like kale, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower!

Exercise Focus – Now is a great time to connect with others so try that group exercise class you have had your eye on!

Ovulatory Phase Smoothie (serves two)

Ingredients:
·      2 cups coconut milk
·      1 scoop vanilla plant-based protein
·      2 tbsp chia seeds
·      1 tbsp coconut oil
·      2 tbsp coconut flakes
·      ½ cup frozen figs
·      ½ frozen banana
·      1 cup frozen cauliflower
·      Handful of spinach
