BOOK CLUB | My Favorite Cookbooks and Wellness Reads!


It’s fair to say that I’m fascinated by the wellness world and I have loads of books on my Kindle and nightstand as a result. If you are looking for something new to dive into, here are a few of my picks: 

Favorites: 

One Part Plant by Jessica Murnane - I am a huge Jessica Murnane fan. I adore her podcast (One Part Podcast) and her cookbook did not disappoint. She even put together an entire podcast devoted to her cookbook deal, which was really, really fascinating. Favorite Dish: Creamy Grits with Avocado and Hot Sauce

The Acne Answer by Marie-Veronique Nadeau - A MUST read for anyone suffering from hormonal acne. It doesn’t necessarily address the internal aspects of hormonal health, but it’s a fantastic reference for understanding how and where topical products fit in. 

WomanCode by Alisa Vitti - A great first step on the journey to balanced hormones. 

The First Mess by Laura Wright - Let me just start by saying that this book is absolutely beautiful. The photos are stunning. Luckily, the accompanying recipes are delightfully accessible. Favorite Dish(es): Hot Pink Smoothie, French Onion Lentil Pots, Weeknight Root Vegetable Dal

Body Into Balance by Maria Noel Groves
- I am obsessed with this book. The chapters on Reproductive Vitality are particularly enlightening. 

Body Love by Kelly LeVeque - One of the only “diet” books that doesn’t advocate ditching entire food groups. The focus is more on what to eat, not what to avoid making the information far more approachable. 

Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden - This book devotes a lot of time to exploring the effects of hormonal birth control and possible alternatives. I learn something new every time I read it AND an entirely updated second edition was published this year! 

Kitchen Matters by Pamela Salzman - I love that the recipes in this book aren’t overly stuffy. Pamela doesn’t shy away from dairy and gluten, but these ingredients always seem to be incorporated in a mindful way. Favorite Dish: One Pot Barley with Melted Cabbage

The New Health Rules by Frank Lipman - With podcasts, blogs, and the Internet in general, it’s really easy to become overwhelmed and confused about what is and isn’t healthy. This book makes it simple. It really is health in a nutshell. 

Skin Cleanse by Adina Grigore - Read this book cover to cover a few times. You may find yourself resistant to some of the information (like ditching your entire skin care routine), but you’ll learn a lot about your skin (and yourself) if you do! 

The Oh She Glows Cookbook by Angela Liddon - Who isn’t an Oh She Glows fan?? It was one of the first blogs that I found when I began to question the sheer number of processed foods I was consuming. Favorite Dish: Quick & Easy Chana Masala

Women’s Wellness Wisdom by Dr. Libby Weaver - This book is hard to find, BUT it’s well worth it if you can. She covers an insane amount of information in easily digestible sections. 

Currently Reading:

Real Love by Sharon Salzberg - As I travel down the path to healing, I’m realizing that the answers aren’t necessarily in diet, exercise, supplements, or topical products. And even if they are, if you don’t believe that you are worthy of love then does any of it really matter? 

Eagerly Anticipating: 

Renegade Beauty by Nadine Artemis - Nadine is always questioning mainstream beauty and I appreciate that. Don’t be afraid of the sun people! 

A Beautiful Mess Cookbook - I just love these ladies and I can't wait to see the recipes they come up with.
